Two kids play in the rafters of their parents’ barn when the ladder breaks, leaving one suspended and ready to fall. The other quickly deposits as much hay beneath his sister as possible before the last rung gives to break her fall. When she does fall, there is a moment where he thinks she didn’t survive.
