Kim Estes

He played in James B. Cox‘s Grey Matter as Doctor Wilshire.

SKSM: Could you start with telling me a bit about yourself? Who are you and what do you do?

Kim Estes: I am a native born Los Angelian. Grammar School and High School in LA and College in the Central San Jaoquin Valley and also attended the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo and then did post Grad work at University of Southern California.

SKSM: When did you know you wanted to become an actor?

Kim Estes: After the company that I worked for was purchased and I knew that I needed to try something new, I did. I started consulting to pay the bills but also started down the road of acting to explore what it was about…

SKSM: How did you become involved in Grey matter Dollar Baby film?

Kim Estes: Picked up by the wonderful producer and director in the first draft and never was traded.
I had worked with them on another project and they asked if I wanted to join the team.

SKSM: What do you think it is in the story that attracts people so much?

Kim Estes: First the Dollar Baby story… and then it is putting on the screen someone’s dream.

SKSM: Did you have to audition for the part or was it written directly for you?

Kim Estes: I was fortunate but I still auditioned, if I remember correctly.

SKSM: You worked with James B. Cox on this film, how was that?

Kim Estes: Wonderful man… brilliant actually!

SKSM: Was there any funny or special moment when they made the movie that you would like to tell me about?

Kim Estes: Yes, my commuting with the one of the producers, Andi H.

SKSM: Do you still have any contact with the crew/cast from that time? Yes,!!!

Kim Estes: If so with who? I heard from the Cast and Crew during my Emmy campaign.. they were very, very supportive…

SKSM: What are you working nowadays?

Kim Estes: Finishing up a couple of projects that I started late last year….Underdog and Loyalty and Blood

SKSM: Are you a fan of Stephen King’s work?

Kim Estes: Absolutley.. I was interviewed before and after my Emmy nomination at Mr. King’s radio station in Bangor by Mr. Shawn Yardley…

SKSM: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Kim Estes: That I sailed on ocean going vessels and that I served as a Chief Engineer in the US Merchant Marines for over 13 years.
