Hearts in Atlantis (2001)

Bobby Garfield, an 11-year-old boy, befriends Ted Brautigan, a mysterious elderly man who rents a room in the boarding house where Bobby and his mother live. Ted has psychic abilities and is being pursued by shadowy figures known as the “Low Men.” He hires Bobby to help him keep watch for these men, but Bobby’s failure to report some signs leads to tragic consequences. The story explores themes of loss, innocence, friendship, and the pain of growing up.
