SKSM: Could you start with telling me a bit about yourself? Who are you and what do you do?
Steve Byers: I am an actor and Spiritual cult leader….okay.. just the actor part is true. I just really want to start my own cult.
SKSM: How did you become involved in The Man Who Loved Flowers?
Steve Byers: Chris asked if I would do him a “solid” and kill a friend of his on film. What could I do but oblige? He had actually mentioned the project back when we were shooting “Left for Dead“. It was impressive that he actually made it happen.
SKSM: Did you have to audition for the part or was it written directly for you?
Steve Byers: I’m not sure that the part was “written” for me but as I had mentioned, we spoke about the project long before we actually shot it. Chris was really psyched about it coming to fruition.
SKSM: You worked with Christopher Harrison on this film, how was that?
Steve Byers: He is a “close talker” and smells like tuna so it was a really bad experience…. kidding. It was a lot of fun and no scent of tuna on the whole shoot.
SKSM: Where there any funny or special moment when they made the movie that you would like to tell me about?
Steve Byers: Ummm… there was one point while we were waiting to shoot that one of the local stores opened their door and asked me to come in. It was a medical supply shop and they were very intrigued by the shoot. They had printed out some “topless” pictures from a show I used to do called “Falcon Beach” and asked me to sign them for their daughters…..I signed over my nipples for some decency 😉
SKSM: Are there things where you say now I would be done this different?
Steve Byers: I try not to do that. It would consume way to much time to go back and re imagine everything I would change with my work. Moving forward is the only way to go.
SKSM: What do you think of the movie it self?
Steve Byers: I thought it was a really great interpretation. I hope that Mr. King thought so too.
SKSM: What did you do after The Man Who Loved Flowers?
Steve Byers: We actually shot it quite awhile ago now. I’ve been playing a villain on Smallville named Desaad. Before that I was running around in a leather skirt slaying titans in a movie titled Immortals.
SKSM: Do you still have any contact with the crew/cast from that time? If so with who?
Steve Byers: I try and keep up to date with Chris’ life with this whole FaceBook thing. His Mom and I still meet up occasionally to “catch up”. okay…not really…but the offer is still out there.
SKSM: Are you (or were you) a fan of Stephen King’s work?
Steve Byers: Of course. Who isn’t?
SKSM: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Is there anything else you want to say to the fans that read this interview?
Steve Byers: No problem. All the best friend.
