Taylor Vickers

She played in Hayden Buhler‘s All That You Love Will Be Carried Away Dollar Baby film as Susan.

SKSM: Could you introduce yourself to our readers? Who is Taylor Vickers and what do you do or have you done?

Taylor Vickers: Actually, I’m officially Taylor Nuttall now! During the day, I’m an Elementary Music Teacher. My passion is in performing, though. I’m primarily a musical theatre performer, but I also direct, choreograph, and vocal coach for local productions here in Boise.

SKSM: When did you know you wanted to become an actress?

Taylor Vickers: As long as I can remember. I started watching old Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals as a child with my grandpa. He definitely ignited my love of musicals.

SKSM: How did you become involved in All that you love will be carried away Dollar Baby film?

Taylor Vickers: My fiance at the time—who happened to be my co-star—asked me if I was willing to participate in this project he and Hayden were getting up to. I, of course, said yes. The rest is history.

SKSM: What do you think it is about the story that attracts people so much?

Taylor Vickers: I think the story is one that will always have a level of relatability for people. We all have those inner thoughts that we struggle with at times. It’s a dark subject, but it’s important to talk about.

SKSM: Did you have to audition for the part or was it written directly for you?

Taylor Vickers: It was written for me, so no audition was necessary.

SKSM: Did anything unexpected come up during filming? If so, how did you motivate yourself to overcome it?

Taylor Vickers: Nothing really unexpected came up. We had a nice time filming and enjoyed a mini-vacation out in this wonderful little spot in Almo, Idaho by City of Rocks.

SKSM: How did you prepare for the role of a character who doesn’t appear in the original story?

Taylor Vickers: I got to really play around with her and flesh her out with my own experience. It also helped that I live with one of the writers so I could ask questions and bounce ideas around.

SKSM: How much creative control did you have over your character?

Taylor Vickers: I had a lot of creative control, Susan not being a character in the original story, so I got to put a lot of me in it. We had some fun with it. Early versions of Susan may or may not have been Russian.

SKSM: You worked with Hayden Buhler on this film, how was that?

Taylor Vickers: Awesome. Hayden is full of positivity and passion for making movies. He and the crew were very professional and fun to work with.

SKSM: Was there any funny or special moment when they made the movie that you would like to tell me about?

Taylor Vickers: While filming outside, there were some stray kittens that kept getting in the shot, so we had to keep holding them in place and playing with them to distract them. Naturally, this resulted in us all forming bonds with these kittens. Jake and I talked about adopting one or more of them, but when one of the little guys who bonded with me in particular came limping up to us all sickly, that sold it. We had to do something. Turned out, the little guy was perfectly healthy, and now he is a beloved member of our family. His name is Mo, short for Almo like the town he was found in.

SKSM: Now that the film is done, would you have changed anything in your performance?

Taylor Vickers: There are always little things I’d like to improve. Being mainly a stage performer, film isn’t really my medium. I am always down for a challenge, though.

SKSM: What are you working on nowadays?

Taylor Vickers: I just finished directing Urinetown: The Musical and am currently choreographing the musical Little Women here in Boise.

SKSM: Are you a fan of Stephen King’s work?

Taylor Vickers: Of course. Honestly, though, I had never read any of his work until meeting my now-husband, Jake. Now he’s a regular part of our road trips.

SKSM: What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

Taylor Vickers: I spent seven years working professional theater in New York, where I got to experience and do a bunch of amazing and surprising things. A highlight was getting to be in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade a few times.

SKSM: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. Is there anything you want to say to the fans that read this interview?

Taylor Vickers: I hope you liked our movie!

SKSM: Do you like to add anything else?

Taylor Vickers: Nothing else to add!
